Ontario Hands-Free Law to Take Effect on October 26

Originally posted in Marketnews.ca by Gordon Brockhouse

Ontarians who use cell phones, MP3 players and other electronic devices while driving have just over three months to change their habits. The Ontario Minister of Transportation has announced that the ban on in-vehicle cellphone use will be enforced starting on October 26.

That doesn’t mean that Ontarians won’t be allowed to talk and drive at the same time. But they’ll have to do so hands-free, which they can if they’re wearing a hands-free headset or have installed a hands-free speakerphone in their car.

It’s not just talking that’s covered by the hands-free law, which was passed last April. Texting, e-mailing and dialling also fall under the restriction, as do the use of other electronic devises such as MP3 Players and navigation systems that are not securely attached to the car’s dashboard.

Fines of up to $500 will be handed to any driver caught, but Ministry Officials said traffic officers will comply with a three-month education period with tickets not being written until February 1, 2010.

Ontario is the fourth region in Canada to issues a full ban on hand-held devises while driving. Newfoundland and Labrador were the first in 2002; Quebec and Nova Scotia brought in legislation in 2008 and similar legislation is before regional parliament in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Supporting the Gloucester Hornets Soccer Club

Parlez Wireless is a strong supporter of community, without our community we would not have a successful business, so to us it is important to give back as much as we can.

This year we are pleased support the Gloucester Hornets Soccer Club by sponsoring the Gloucester International Soccer Tournament. It is our way of saying thank you to all the parents of these kids who regularly support our business in the community.

The Gloucester International Soccer Tournament (GIST) is the Nation’s Capital premium boys and girls annual soccer tournament in the region. It showcases the talents of competitive soccer teams from Ontario & Quebec and has been the Hornets’ primary fundraiser for the past 29 years. There are upwards of 300 teams from the U9 – U18 Divisions that participate in these two tournaments.

The Gloucester Hornets Soccer Club is a non-profit organization guided by dedicated volunteers. They are a small club and do not receive any public assistance. Their only sources of revenue are the fees paid by parents and donations received from generous individuals and businesses. With fees covering the basic costs of club operation and field/facility maintenance, monies raised during the tournament go directly to supporting their competitive teams.

Parlez Wireless is a proud Platinum level sponsor this year and will be providing the tournament with communication tools during their two tournaments.  This will allow players to make contact with their parents when necessary and will allow for the volunteers to be able to keep in contact throughout the tournament.

For more information you can go to www.gloucesterhornets.ca to read about the upcoming tournaments in July and August.

In addition, if you are a Parlez Wireless customer and are looking for sponsorship support, please don’t hesitate to drop us a line so that your sponsorship request can be considered too!

Peace of Mind in the Palm of Your Hand

GPS technology has allowed for parents to stay in constant touch with their children, without having to interrupt their activities. TELUS Kid Find allows you to do just this. Subscribe to Kid Find and you will have a “Parent Phone” and a “Kid Phone” allowing parents to keep track of their children easily. The service allows you to locate your family members in real time from your own Parent phone or online from your computer.

It allows you to see your family member’s location on a map with surrounding points of interest making it easier for you to pin point exactly where they are.

The service is only available to family members sharing the same account and must be subscribed to.

For many families where both parents work, having a share plan with kid find allows you to communicate with your child as often as you want but also allows you the peace of mind of checking to see if they made it home from school and or if they really are at the mall or at their friends home like they say they are!

It is a virtual type of big brother looking out for your children in a world where many people are short on time and resources. The cost to subscribe to this service with TELUS is $5 per month.

Pretty In Pink

I just love it when technology creates something that can positively impact the lives of women and at the same time can give back to the community! TELUS recently launched the Pink Blackberry Pearl and $25 from the sale of every phone is being donated to Rethink Breast Cancer.

We think this is fantastic because we love the Blackberry Pearl and we have been selling lots of them which means we can make a difference! These are the top five reasons we love the Pink Pearl:

1. $25 from the sale of every Pink Pearl is donated to Rethink Breast Cancer.

2. You can synchronize your calendar, contacts and task list very easily keeping everything you have on your computer in your purse for easy access when you need it most. What we like the most about this is the freedom it provides you away from the office! Spring is coming, who wants to be tied to their desk!

3. Email, email and more email. This device allows you to keep multiple email accounts active on your device so you can get email from your family, your friends and from work.

4. Web browsing extraordinaire! Not only can you read about Brad and Angelina on www.people.com, you can check out Facebook, get directions via Google Maps or just check the weather at your convenience.

5. You can store up to 8GB of information. That is right, up to 8GB of music, pictures or video making this device that much more practical. You can use it at the gym to replace your MP3 player; you can use it to take pictures or video of the kids when you are out and about. It eliminates the need to carry multiple devices making that purse just a little bit lighter to carry!

All in all we love the cool look of the Pink Pearl and all of the options that it comes with. It really is a girl’s best friend. Drop by Parlez Wireless to take a peak at how you can change communication needs and help support Rethink Breast Cancer.
